classic stripes

Check out this stylin’ striped bag from forestbound on Etsy. Crafted from worn-in but sturdy thick striped ticking fabric salvaged from a 1940′s era mattress cover, this carry-all is both fashionable and eco-conscious. I love the pattern of the stripes and the slightly faded hue. A new satchel for Fall? Yes please.

Modern Pop

Modern Pop comes to us from Ryan Beshara, an LA-based advertising gal who needed an artistic outlet outside her field. She came to children’s illustrations by way of stationary and calendars initially intended for adults. Though she doesn’t have children of her own, she says she finds a freedom in designing for kids. Her prints are indeed modern, but with a bit of a classic, vintage childhood feel. The colors are vivid, the images pleasing, and the messages educational. I could easily imagine decorating a baby’s room with a series of alphabet prints.

red on paper

I was browsing Etsy again yesterday, this time checking out a slew of illustrator websites. I starting flagging ones that I particularly liked and realized that the color red seemed to be the common theme. Grounds for a new post? I think so:). Take a peek at these fab artists, all with shops on my favorite indie artist site, Etsy.

Bibs and burp cloths and blankets… oh my! I somehow just can’t get enough of looking at baby gifts. It could be the fact that I have an 8-month old nephew, or that I have no less than 5 friends with new babies and 5 with bundles on the way. Or it could be the fact that I’m a 33-year old woman and it’s just nature;). The little smiles, the curious twinkles in their eyes, those little tiny toes… Whatever the case, I’m in it! I found a slew of fabulous gifts on Etsy and couldn’t help but share. Maybe you’ve got your own little babe on the way or maybe you’re looking for a unique shower gift. Either way, all little girls will need (read: their mothers will want) one of these!

Etsy :: Kriya & Bright on Moon

And the hunt for fabulous Maine Etsy shops continues… A recent stroll through my favorite online expo opened my eyes to Bright on Moon and Kriya. Kriya Davis handcrafts each piece of jewelry. Her designs are natural with clean lines and a classic simplicity. Each piece feels like a new favorite, unique and lovely. I adore that she operates two shops: one for her jewelry and one for her hand-crafted jewelry supplies. Perfect for an aspiring jeweler, looking for inspiration. Check it out!!

Etsy :: Vintage Home Recycled

As I’ve been a little lax on my posting as of late, it seems I left my darling Etsy finds behind! I thought now was as good a time as any to get it all rolling again. I found this charming little vintage shop, based in Windham, ME of all places! Just imagine, somewhere on my daily commute lies this mecca for things of days past. The owner sounds like a complete doll, so make sure to check out her about page. And if you’re enthralled by antique housewares like I am, make sure to check out her full site in addition to the little gems I’ve shared with you here. Happy antiquing!!

Etsy :: Two Little Owls Vintage

Continuing on with my kitchen themed Etsy discoveries… meet Two Little Owls Vintage. Sure, she has more than just kitchen stuff, but her collection of tea cups, pitchers, and glasses makes me a little giddy. I may need to get one of those fabulous old curios with the glass doors to store all of this marvelous stuff that I want to buy;). A little irrational, maybe, and I’m not sure J would approve, but I’ll work on it!

The owner of this little shop is based in Westbrook, ME. A quick peek at her bio tells me that she is a mom, loves Maine summers, gardening, photography, reading, baking, home renovation and most importantly vintage. [hello Ms. Two Little Owls Vintage - we would most certainly get along!!]

I hope you’ll take a peek at my picks below and also head on over to her shop to see what other treats she has to offer. Lovely indeed;)

Etsy :: Red Eye Vintage

I wish I could tell you more about this next Portland-based Etsy shop. All of my searches for info on RedEyeVintage have come up short. According to the about page, they love coffee. And pigeons. Sounds like they might have loved NYC as well;).

Though I’m lacking in info, I’m not lacking in links to fabulous vintage finds. In a few months, I’ll have an opportunity to outfit a new home (rented, but still). Here’s hoping some of these are still around!!

etsy :: the house of bouton

Introducing the first in a new series that I hope will go on and on and on. If you’re a crafter, a designer, an artist, or maybe just someone who enjoys beautiful, handmade things, you’re probably familiar with etsy. Though it’s not my only destination for hand-crafted  pieces, it’s one of my favorites. There are shops from creators all over the world! To kick off my journey through the many ‘clicks’ of etsy, I chose to focus on Portland, ME. In fact, my first few etsy spotlights focus on Portland-based artists. Fitting, as I live here and consider it to be a mecca for creativity.

Meet Cassie Bouton of The House of Bouton. She was formally trained as a printmaker and holds a BFA from the University of Southern Maine. Her shop features hand printed home decor and hand pulled fine art prints. I’m particularly fond of her Enamel Kettle print, but I’m pretty sure that any one of her prints would make a fabulous addition to my new kitchen. I also adore this quote that she lovingly posts on her site:

“If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” -William Morris

I haven’t heard that one before, but I couldn’t agree more! So, thank you Cassie!
