Back in the good ol’ days, I was a music lady extraordinaire. I spent time in both A&R [Artists & Repertoire] and Marketing and developed strong relationships with fellow business folk and musicians alike. I was fortunate enough to work with an incredible group of people, both teaching me a remarkable amount and maybe even growing with me.
Shortly before leaving, back in 2006, I was given the honor of marketing lead on the Brokeback Mountain Soundtrack. It was an amazing movie to be affiliated with and the soundtrack upheld the film’s integrity. With featured artists like Rufus Wainwright, Teddy Thompson, Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris, the album was destined to make it’s mark. One of my favorite songs on the album is by Rufus Wainwright, The Maker Makes. I wouldn’t say that I had any direct influence on how the video turned out, but I was there nearly every step of the way and spent a fair amount of time helping out with the process. [Memories of the editing room with artist, manager, my boss and the editor are now filling my head. So many movie clips to fit in!! Hunt down that version if you can. It’s actually pretty powerful.]
It was an awesome experience, to say the least, and something that added a whole new collection of ‘make-me-smile’ moments to my music career. Maybe listening to Rufus will make your day a little better too… try it;).
